Most Helpful Review: “Okay I wanted some curtains to cover my storage in my garage. I have created a nice game room and I wanted to hide the crap.
I needed to hem the curtains I bought and my wife told me about this stuff. I was going to take them in and have them sewn at a local shop would have cost me a fortune. This stuff is fantastic after you learn how to use it.
1. Test it on some scraps first. Do it everal times to learn how long it takes for it to adhere.
2. Use a very hot iron. I used this Shark on max setting.
3. it takes about 15 to 20 seconds over each area for the glue strips to melt and work. Once done correctly super strong.
If you do not do it long enough or with a hot enough iron it will pull right apart. Make sure to let it dry a minute or two before pulling to test.
4. DO NOT get this stuff on the bottom of your iron. If a piece is hanging out DO NOT go over it. It is hard to get off.
5. If you make a mistake, you can re-heat it and pull it apart. You will have to use a new piece…but it will break free if you re-heat it.
6. Measure twice and cut once. LOL.I don’tknow why you get so much for $10. I have enough to hem 100 more pair of pants LOL. Who needs this much?
Once you play with this stuff for about 10 minutes you will learn the heat and the timing. I wish I would have known about this stuff years ago. WOW. Hope this helps. My wife can’t believe I did it. ” – Jonson

Most Helpful Review: “I just hemmed about 10 dresses with these tapes. They come in Extra hold, regular, and soft hold for different type of fabrics but I honestly can’t tell the difference other than the width of the tape. They all feel the same.
For wide skirts, prepare a small section (about 4 inches) at a time and overlap the tape as you go along. It’s super easy and the hold is very strong.
Just to be sure the glue will stay put, I waited at least 24 hours before putting the dresses in the washer. ” –Toodles

Most Helpful Review: “I started using this product one day when my sewing machines were in the shop being repaired and I needed to hem some pants. I folded the edge, placed flat strips of this material between the fold, and ironed.
The result was a perfect invisible hem with absolutely no needle or thread marks. I was so impressed, I redid many of the hems in my other pants and skirts. I even started experimenting with quick alterations of shirts.
The amount in this order lasted through several pairs of pants and two skirts. I have a lot of clothes, so I soon ordered more and yet more.
I haven’t had any problem so far with the adhesive coming apart. On the other hand, the adhesion isn’t so strong that I can’t pull the hem open and redo sections I’m not happy with.
I tried a stronger, thicker adhesive tape with better adhesion, but didn’t like it as much for hemming though I loved it for craft projects and appliqués.
Whereas the thinner tape produced a hem that was soft and liable, the stronger and heavier tape produced a stiff hem. Though a stiffer hem might work well with a heavier fabric.
I was so dissatisfied with the look of it on light to medium-weight fabrics, I opened the hem, picked out the tape and redid it with the lighter weight tape.
Cotton fabrics adhered the best. After that, cotton blends and polyester did well. I found that very thin fabrics didn’t require as much heat as thicker ones.
This being the case, I did use the tape successfully on a wide variety of weights and types of cloth. When the fabric fold was too thick for good adhesion.
I stuffed a small additional wad of adhesive tape inside and ironed it on both sides. Where it still didn’t hold well enough, I added just enough stitches to make it firmly secure.
One further advantage of lighter weight adhesive tape was the ability to use it twice on the same hem for better hold: once in the first fold, then again in the second.
It created a hem so secure, I was able to do more adventurous alterations on clothes, such as turning button-down shirts and blouses into cute jackets.
If you’re unsure how suitable the product is going to be for any particular hem or project, I suggest using the iron at the hottest safe setting for the fabric and spot testing it to see if it’s heat enough to activate the adhesion.
It helps to iron both sides of the hem, and give it a bit of steam (for fabrics that will withstand it).Overall, it’s a great product that I now buy frequently in generous quantities. ” – Sandra Croyle

Most Helpful Review: “This is not supposed to be something that hems your clothing perfectly exactly like it would if the piece was professionally tailored.
This is something to use in the meantime, or for a short time, to just do it an easy way for a bit. This is not something that is going to last forever. That said.
This was my first time ever using fabric tape like this by myself although I have watched other people use it. It worked very well.
I used it on a nylon polyester synthetic jumpsuit to hem the legs which were about 6 inches too long. I used my Black & Decker iron set on 3 because while I read the instructions that are listed here in the advertisement, 150° means nothing to me on an iron.
It’s not like the iron has a temperature setting! So I thought that it might be helpful to let you know that setting 3 works well for it. You just need to go slow. Very carefully lay it down.
Make sure there are no wrinkles and that it’s very flat. Get it nice and damp but not soaking wet, and then go over it. This tape will definitely hold for quite some time, although, again, this is not professional tailoring.
It is definitely worth seven dollars for two long rolls to use for a bunch of stuff and if you are using it on something like trying to make reflective tape stick to gloves or whatever, this is definitely a good deal.
Note: as others have mentioned, it does not come with instructions! But if you look here on the advertisement and read through the information, it says right in the advertisement how to use it.
I’m just letting you know here in this review how to use it because a lot of people seem to not be aware that it does say it in the advertisement. ” – Wendy KL

Buying Guide: Finding the Best Hemming Iron-On Tape

When it comes to hemming clothes or fabrics, using an iron-on tape can be a convenient and effective solution. Whether you want to shorten pants, skirts, or dresses or mend tears and hems, a good-quality hemming iron-on tape can make the task quick and easy. However, with so many options available in the market, finding the best one for your needs can be overwhelming.

To help you make an informed decision, here are some key factors to consider when searching for the best hemming iron-on tape:

1. Material Compatibility

Before purchasing any hemming iron-on tape, ensure that it is compatible with the fabric you’ll be working with. Some tapes may work well on cotton and linen but might not adhere properly to synthetic materials like polyester or nylon. Take note of the materials you commonly work with and choose a tape that suits them.

2. Width and Length

Consider the width and length of the iron-on tape based on your preferences and requirements. A wider tape might be suitable for larger hems or projects, while a narrower one could work better for delicate fabrics or intricate designs. Similarly, check if the length of the roll is sufficient for your intended use.

3. Heat Resistance

Since ironing is involved in the application process, ensure that the hemming tape is heat resistant. It should withstand high temperatures without melting or losing its adhesive properties.

4. Adhesive Strength

The primary purpose of hemming iron-on tape is to create a strong bond between fabrics. Look for a product that offers excellent adhesive strength to ensure that your hems stay in place even after multiple washes.

5. Ease of Use

Consider how easy it is to work with the chosen hemming iron-on tape. It should have clear instructions on how to apply it correctly without leaving any visible marks or residue on the fabric. Additionally, check if it can be easily cut and trimmed to fit your specific needs.

6. Durability

Choose a hemming iron-on tape that is known for its durability. It should be able to withstand regular wear and tear, including stretching, washing, and ironing, without losing its adhesive qualities.

7. Customer Reviews

Lastly, take the time to read customer reviews and ratings of different hemming iron-on tapes. Real-life experiences can provide valuable insights into the performance and reliability of various brands and variants available in the market.

By considering these factors while searching for the best hemming iron-on tape, you can ensure that you make an informed choice that suits your specific requirements. Remember to compare prices from different retailers to find the best deal without compromising on quality. Happy hemming!
